Overview
IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is a recombinant analogue of insulin-like growth factor 1 carrying an arginine substitution at position 3 and a 13-residue N-terminal extension. The modifications reduce binding to IGF binding proteins, which is why it is widely used as a growth-factor signalling reference in cell-culture work.
Background
Native IGF-1 is largely bound by circulating binding proteins in study systems, complicating dose-response interpretation. The LR3 analogue was engineered to sidestep that interaction and has since become a routine supplement in serum-free culture media and receptor-signalling assays.
Handling & storage
