Overview
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide built from the ACTH(4-7) fragment extended with a proline-glycine-proline tail. It is a standard reference compound in neuropeptide and BDNF-signalling research.
Background
The ACTH(4-10) fragment carried neurotropic activity without corticotropic activity, but degraded quickly. Adding the Pro-Gly-Pro tail stabilised the sequence against peptidases and produced the form used in the literature today.
Handling & storage
