Overview
Melanotan-1 (afamelanotide) is a linear 13-amino-acid alpha-MSH analogue with high affinity for MC1R, used as a reference compound in pigmentation and melanocortin-receptor research.
Background
Native alpha-MSH degrades within minutes. Substituting norleucine at position 4 and D-phenylalanine at position 7 produced a far more stable analogue while preserving MC1R activity, and that substitution pattern became the template for the whole analogue series.
Handling & storage
Reconstitute gently against the inside wall of the vial with our Laboratory Research Reconstitution Solution and swirl until dissolved. This material is light sensitive: keep it in the amber vial, store sealed vials at -20°C in the dark, and hold reconstituted solution at 2-8°C protected from light.
