Overview
Sermorelin is the 29-amino-acid N-terminal fragment of growth-hormone-releasing hormone — GHRH(1-29) — and the shortest fragment that retains the parent hormone's receptor activity. It is the standard reference sequence in secretagogue research.
Background
Systematic truncation of the 44-residue native hormone in the early 1980s showed that activity was concentrated in the first 29 residues, which made a synthetically practical research standard possible.
