Overview
VIP (vasoactive intestinal peptide) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide of the secretin/glucagon superfamily, studied across immune, respiratory, circadian and gastrointestinal signalling research through the VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors.
Background
First isolated from porcine intestine in 1970, VIP was later found throughout the nervous system and in immune tissue, making it one of the most broadly studied regulatory neuropeptides.
Handling & storage
VIP is unusually sensitive to temperature and surface adsorption. Reconstitute cold where the protocol allows, keep the solution at 2-8°C protected from light, use low-binding labware, and store sealed vials at -20°C.
